Experiment 001 · Evolution Tank
The leaderboard
The deepest family lines, longest-lasting predators and greatest champions that players have evolved in Evolution Tank. Every entry is replayed from its seed and checked before it goes up, so every number here really happened.

Open Evolution Tank →How the leaderboard works
Evolution Tank is a browser simulation where creatures with tiny neural-network brains eat, breed and mutate on their own. Nobody designs them. Over hundreds of generations, natural selection turns random slugs into spiky grazers, and predator branches split off to hunt them.
The leaderboard tracks three records from each tank: how deep its oldest family line evolved, how long a predator line lasted, and the best single creature it produced. You can try any champion on the board yourself: Try it drops an exact copy of its brain into your own tank.
Why you can trust the numbers
- Every tank has a seed. The same seed and the same choices always grow the same tank, in every browser.
- Entries are replayed. Before an entry appears, the tank is rebuilt from its seed and run again. If the numbers don’t match exactly, it’s rejected.
- Only home-grown lines count. Champions released from the Hall of Fame or sent by a friend don’t add to a tank’s records.
Questions
How do I get on the Evolution Tank leaderboard?
Open Evolution Tank, let a tank evolve for at least 5 minutes of tank time, then press Submit this tank in the Leaderboard panel and add a name. Your entry appears here once it passes the check.
How are entries checked?
Every tank grows from a seed, and the page records the few things you change along the way, like the mutation rate. Before an entry goes up, the tank is rebuilt from that seed and replayed step by step. It only appears here if the replay lands on exactly the same numbers.
What counts as a generation?
Each baby is one generation further from the first random slugs than its parent. Deepest lineage is the most generations any family line reached in that tank. Predator generations count from the moment a predator branch split off.
Do released champions count?
No. Champions released from the Hall of Fame or sent by a friend can live in your tank, but only family lines that evolved in that tank count toward the leaderboard.
How is the champion score worked out?
When a creature dies, prey score one point per meal plus four per baby, and predators score three per kill plus five per baby. The best creature that ever lived and died in the tank is its champion.
Can I update my entry?
Yes. Keep the tank running and submit it again. The leaderboard shows the newest checked entry for each tank.
